Member Roster
As I write this today, "member roster" sounds a bit overblown, because mine may be the only member site still in existence! The original Society's pages are long gone, and an exhaustive search of the Internet turns up nothing. This page is an effort to revive the Society and help users find one another and answers to their WP51 questions. Both individuals and web sites are urged to join the Society (see "About the Society" below). Join today, and let's turn this paragraph into an introduction to the many, many members to be found on the roster!01-May-2001 -- It gives me great pleasure to finally update the above paragraph and welcome our second site member: Alphabest. 03-May-2001 -- Could it be a snowball effect? Glad to report we now have our second individual member: Carol Reese. Site Member - Alphabest This healthcare consulting and medical transcription company's web site is home to useful WP51 tips, tricks, and links, as well as being the only online spot we know where you can legally purchase back licenses and/or disks for WP51. Also look for tips and macros from Carol Reese, who gives abundant support to WP users in online forums. Site Member - WP51 Center Our site was a single (but very, very long!) page filled with information about WP51. We recently redesigned the site and linked it to our business site. We've added a WP51 forum, new resource links, and navigation aids, and we continue to add fresh, useful content all the time. Individual Member - Mitzi L. D. Ponce I've often described myself as WP51's biggest fan. Although in my transcription business, I sometimes must convert documents to other word processor formats, my personal favorite remains WP51. I've found that for raw speed, power, customizability (is that a word?!), and compatibility, WP51 is a clear winner. Have you ever sat and watched an hourglass in some other word processor turning, turning, turning and thought to yourself, "why does it take so long for my spellcheck to load?" Well, never once with WP51 has this happened to me! In fact, the speed advantage of the program became even more pronounced, I believe, when I moved it into a Windows environment. I got the additional memory resources and management of my newer machines without the Windows-based program overhead that so often slows down the other word processors. I've successfully integrated WP51 with Microsoft programs (including Access and Excel) and can easily share information between the programs. What's more, I've yet to hear of a WP51 macro virus spreading around the globe! Individual Member - Carol Reese I've been a medical transcriptionist for over 30 years, and have used WP5.x since WP5.0 came out in 1988. I can use more "modern" word processing programs, but much prefer WP5.1 for transcription. I use WP7 for any number of other tasks involving graphics and tables with math, etc. About five years ago, there was an excellent WP51 information site that was also home to a group calling themselves the "WordPerfect 5.1 Preservation Society." About four years ago, our visitors started reporting that the link was dead. The site had offered the WPPS logo freely to any web site that offered WP51 information and adhered to a few reasonable principles (which we can't really recall right now). We may be the last site around that still carries the logo, but you can change all that! If you are the webmaster of a WP51 site, we invite you to carry the WPPS logo. The logo and an html link code for this member roster page is provided below. Drop us a line letting us know you display the logo, and we'll add your site to the WPPS Member Roster. Please include a brief introduction to your site and any wit or wisdom you'd like to share about WP51. Individuals are urged to join the WPPS, as well. Send us your name, an email address, and a brief introduction. We'll include your information on the member roster (see the roster for an example). If you want us to exclude your email link, be sure to let us know. Finally, if any of the original members of the society are reading this, please send us email! We'd love to include the story of the Society on our roster page and give credit where credit is due! ![]() |
