Fair Notice and Warning!
The links below will take you out of the Voice Pro - WP51 Center web site. We think it's annoying to have a hundred windows pop up on your desktop, so none of the links below will do that! If you want to return here, we suggest bookmarking our site now (or just use your back button).

Please also note that some of the graphical links along the right side of this page will take you to sites with which Voice Pro may have an affiliate agreement. This means that if you click through to these sites and/or purchase from them, Voice Pro may earn some small referral fee. Please note, however, we aren't placing the links for the primary purpose of earning money! Referral fees can defray the cost of maintaining this resource, but they won't make us or break us either way. We believe, however, in disclosing our practices, and we also strongly endorse the products displayed. (We use them.)

As you leave our site, please be reminded that other sites are not governed by our privacy and/or security policies. Read the policies of new sites carefully.

Happy surfing. If you find a WP51 site we don't have listed, feel free to send us feedback. We're happy to add your WP site or other sites you suggest.
(Everything but the...) Kitchen Sink Links - or back to top
Links in this category are not specific to any one aspect of WP51 but, rather,
are an impressive grab bag of everything (including the kitchen sink)

Gordon McComb's WP Web Site - The must-have bookmark for every WP fan and afficionado.

WordPerfect Shareware Products Directory - Shareware programs galore, including graphics organizers, macro managers, bundled macro packages, and more.

MT Monthly - Great site and monthly newsletter for MTs. This terrific publication often features articles of interest to WP51 users.

The Legal WordPerfect Page - Some reprints of Rich Belthoff 's published articles and useful WP51 add-ons (time sheet programs, for instance). Geared toward the legal user, but good for all.

All Freeware about DOS Word Processing - Nice assortment of DOS utilities available for download. While none are necessarily WP51 add-ons, many of these utilities will come in handy when you're doing intensive text manipulation.

Language Links - or back to top
Links to language modules and other language support for WP51

Willem Smouter Home Page - Mr. Smouter, based in Amsterdam, offers Language Assistants for Hebrew, Greek, and Cyrillic.

Loyola University - This archive offers German, Italian, French, and Spanish language modules. The site seems to be in support of university home computer users, but we easily downloaded from the site. Incidentally, the site also offers some downloadable WP51 feature tutorials.

Metropoli Files - Metropoli has keyboard files for: Afrikaans, Portugese, Catalan, French-Canadian, German, Danish, Spanish, Galician, Greek, Italian, Finnish, and more! You'll find plenty of other WP51 files here , too. One navigation caution is that we had difficulty searching the site using the provided search functions. If you do as well, try this direct link to the files listing we found.

Channel 1 File Library - This file library makes availabe for download language modules including Hebrew and Esperanto. The site has hundreds of other WP51 downloads, as well. Searching on the site can be a bit difficult and can return a good number of files that seem unrelated to your search. Try to be very, very specific in your search terms. For instance, searching for ["wordperfect 5.1" and polish] gave us results ranging from booklet macros to graphics. All in all, this is a great resource, but go there when you have some time to spare -- you'll spend most of your time browsing the search results!

The Russian Language Program at Cornell University - Makes availabe WP51 pritner fonts for use with the Russian language module.

Vada - Software - This site offers public domain and freeware downloads. WP51 language support files include French, Hebrew, Cyrillic, and Spanish (spell check).

Macro Links - or back to top
Links to other sites that offer WP51 macros

Gordon McComb's WordPerfect 5.1 Macros and Templates - McComb's award-winning book, no longer available in print, is provided on the web by its author. If you use just one book on WP51 macros, this is the one!

Michael Shacter's Macro Programming Environment - Edward Mendelson's WordPerfect for DOS site hosts Shacter's MPE program, as well as MALT. Ton of other resources here as well.

WordPerfect to HTML Conversions - This WP51 macro author offers a collection of macros and instructions to convert WP51 documents to HTML.

Sequoia's WordPerfect 5.1 (DOS) Macro Page - Useful macros - see especially the "paragraph fixer." This type of macro comes in handy when a WP51 newbie uses hard returns at the end of sentences. Urk. (Note: Site was down on 04/15/01. Please let us know if the link continues to be dead.)

Users Links - or back to top
Links to web sites where you can find other WP51 users who are,
generally speaking, willing to assist with questions.

MT Desk - An outstanding web site for Medical Transcriptionists. Site owner maintains links to WP51 resources, and you can find help in the message boards.

WordPerfect Tips - Geared primarily to the legal community, find tips here for using WP51 to create pleadings -- and more.

Andrew Roberts' Web Study Guide - Easy to follow tutorial allows new users to get a quick start using WP51. Please note that Mr. Roberts' WP51 information is also linked into a very large (free) Study Guide that tries to cover everything from Algebra and Anxiety to Vocabulary and Wordprocessing. Definitely a site worth your browsing time.

Corel WP51+ Support Site - Here you'll find a newsgroup, knowledge base, printer drivers, and the Corel FTP site.

DataPerfect User Group - This is not strictly a WP51 site; however, if you recall using the excellent WP tool, ed.exe, you'll be glad to know it can be downloaded here. One of the best, fastest, feature-rich utility text editors ever, and it edits WP51 macros! 03/31/01 - Just checking links today, and I'm happy to report this site has undergone a facelift! Very, very nice redo!

microCounsel - Kendall Callas' resume includes nearly a hundred published articles on WordPerfect, though not necessarily always 5.1. The site's focus is primarily WP in the legal office, but there's plenty to be found here for the medical transcriptionist, too. Just one example of the unique content you'll find at this site is a WP51 macro that dials phone numbers for you! Nifty!

Where-to-Buy Links - or back to top
We can't guarantee these sources will always have WP51, but they're certainly worth a try. Remember, too, that if you buy a used copy of WP51, you'll want to read the fine print of the licensing agreement to make certain you and the seller are in compliance with all its terms.

Alphabest - site maintained by Julianne Weight. Alphabest apparently offers a WP51+ licensing program for upgraders or new purchasers.

EMS - EMS has WP51 listed for resell. We haven't had any direct contact with the proprietor, and we can't vouch for this site. Your best bet is to contact them directly to discuss licensing, payment, etc. Full contact information is easily found linked to their homepage. If you buy from EMS, please write us about your shopping experience. We'd love to add a glowing recommendation to this listing, if possible.

Great WP51 Tip Pages - or back to top
When I'm cruising WP51 sites, I sometimes come across tips pages. Often, I'll see a tip and think, "Oh, yeah, I forgot that there was a time when I didn't know that!" After years of using a program, it's easy to forget how excited you were to find a new, better, easier way of performing a task. Sometimes on these pages, though, I find a feature I still don't know about or understand fully. It may sound a little bit nerdy, but for me that's an exhilirating experience! When I'm updating my tips pages, it would be easy enough to reproduce the tips found on other sites, but I value collective knowledge and I'd rather encourage folks to visit other WP51 sites. The links below will take you directly to some of the best WP51 tip pages on the web -- some advanced tips, some beginning tips, all great.

Electronic HelpDesk - Tips from the University of Alberta include a succint discussion of list files functions and tips on customizing WP51.

Wilfrid Laurier University - Tips include a good explanation of the spell.exe utility.

Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine - Learn about em dashes, en dashes, extended searches, advance codes, and more.

University of Miami - School of Business - Help Desk tips here include explanations of common error messages and a nice tip on the easy way to do double-sided prints.

Kendall Callas, again - It's worth mentioning this site twice! This link points you to eight super tips for improving WP51's performance.

Rob's Really Useful Pages - That's all I know about the owner of these pages! I can't make the link to the homepage work, to save my soul. However, these tip pages are great, and include a useful discussion of creating watermarks in WP51.

Fixes - Pages that Address Specific WP51 Problems - or back to top
Some of the pages listed below may be part of the sites listed above; however, each appears here because it offers a solution to a common WP51 problem.

WordPerfect for DOS Updated - I just can't think of a good way to describe Edward Mendelson's site. You won't find a single solution at this site but, rather, dozens. You won't find the answer to your most perplexing WP51 problem but, rather, the answers to at least your top five. The other links in this category are all to single pages, but linking to just one page in this site would deprive you of the opportunity to explore it and stumble on something incredibly useful. Here are only a few of the issues addressed on the site: Hard-to-find printer drivers, instructions for printing from WPDOS to any Windows printer, installing fonts, USB ports, Windows conflicts, Windows ME compatibility and setup, and networking. And, yes, we linked to this site earlier on the page, but the best things in life are worth doing twice!

Smart Computing - article that explains how to use the Control Printer menu to cancel or rush print jobs. Nicely written explanation of Control Printer functions.

Hewlett-Packard - How to install printer drivers for HP LaserJets and WP51, also explains how to install sheet feeders.

Hewlett-Packard - Okay, so you've installed your new HP LaserJet drivers, but your documents aren't formatted correctly. What next? This article helps.

National Institute of Standards and Technology, Office of Information Services - Buried in this administrative calendar are instructions for eliminating the "extra page" problem that sometimes occurs with Win95 and WP51. Search the page for section "275.1" to go right to the spot.

Microsoft Support - Page explains expanded and extended memory issues with Win3.x and WP51 and offers workarounds.

Microsoft Support - Specifically addresses problems with Microsoft Mail for Windows, versions 3.x, but also offers instructions for creating default file associations. My only proviso would be that you probably want to associate your file type with wp.exe or appropriate batch file if using these instructions for a non-Microsoft Mail solution.

Microsoft Support - Page details how certain codes are handled when converting a WP51 document to Word 6.x. May not help, but may at least explain where the problem lies.

Microsoft Support - Why you may get unknown codes in a WP51 document converted from a Word 6.x document. Explains what to do with DDE link codes to avoid this.

Microsoft Support - Why password-protected documents won't open in Word 1.x - 6.x, plus fix.

Microsoft Support - Workarounds/explanations of "Document Appears to be Corrupt" errors when open WP51 document in Word 6.x.

Microsoft Support - Explains this Works error message: Works Err Msg: Runtime Error R6001. Error is sometimes received when attempting to save a Works document as a WP51 document. Offers fix.

Microsoft Support - How to troubleshoot an "empty document" occuring when a WP51 master document is opened in Word 6.x.

Microsoft Support - Conversion Kit for moving WP51 files to Word 6.x. Download directly from site.

Microsoft Support - Conversion Kit for moving WP51 files to Word 6.x running on WinNT. Download directly from site.

Microsoft Support - Why footnotes display incorrectly when WP51 documents are opened in Works. Instructions for fix.

Microsoft Support - Problem with most versions of Word displaying long document names.

Microsoft Support - How to correct truncated Bookmark in Pageref Field resulting in "Error! Bookmark not Defined" when document is reopened in Word (Versions 6.x and higher). Solution detailed.

Microsoft Support - Why your WP51 files may not convert correctly in Word 97.

Microsoft Support - Fix for inability to Print to Local Port from WordPerfect for DOS in WinNT Server/Workstation 3.x.

Microsoft Support - How to fix annoying pagination problems when converting WP51 to Word 6.x.

Microsoft Support - WP51 documents opened in Word 6.x contain large gaps between paragraphs. Fix detailed.

Microsoft Support - Why special characters may disappear when WP51 documents are edited in Word 2000. How to correct.

Microsoft Support - You open a converted Word document in WP51 and its graphics are upside-down, reversed, and/or of poor quality. Workarounds offered.

Microsoft Support - How to run the WP51 tutorial from a desktop icon in Win3.x. NOTE: The one important instruction missing from this support document is the absolute requirement to save the batch file as a plain text file! If you're unsure how, use a plain text editor or see our page on Win95/98.

Microsoft Support - Using your WP51 mouse controls in Win3.x.

Microsoft Support - Knowledge Base Search page - if your problem isn't specifically listed in the MS links above, try this search function.

About five years ago, there was an excellent WP51 information site that was also home to a group calling themselves the "Wordperfect 5.1 Preservation Society." About four years ago, our visitors started reporting that the link was dead. The site had offered the WPPS logo freely to any web site that offered WP51 information and adhered to a few reasonable principles (which we can't really recall right now).

We may be the last site around that still carries the logo, but you can change all that! If you are the webmaster of a WP51 site, we invite you to carry the WPPS logo. The logo and an html link code for the member roster page is provided below. Drop us a line letting us know you display the logo, and we'll add your site to the WPPS Member Roster. Please include a brief introduction to your site and any wit or wisdom you'd like to share about WP51.

Finally, if any of the original members of the society are reading this, please send us email! We'd love to include the story of the Society on our roster page and give credit where credit is due!

Help keep WP51 alive! When you visit a link on the left, consider leaving the webmaster a brief note expressing your appreciation of the site. Over and over we hear that a webmaster is considering taking down their WP51 pages. Let them know there is still an appreciative audience for their information.
