Adventure Cove at Camp Clark, Cascade Pacific Council, near Cloverdale, Oregon
We arrived at the Meriwether-Clark Scout Reservation after traveling north from Camp Baker and pausing at Tillamook for the obligatory cheese and ice cream stop. Camp Clark (Adventure Cove) is separated from Camp Meriwether both by forest and a long stretch of seashore. This Cub camp features campsites perched high above the ocean on cliffs and program areas tucked into clearings here and there. Campsites are generous and spread out among the giant conifers that dwarf tents, lodges, and campers. Like other coastal camps we visited, the trees are magnificent and quite memorable.
During our brief tour with Camp Director Maggie Slocum, we found younger boys everywhere -- in program areas, in the trading post, near the dining lodge—and many were happily displaying the results of their handicraft efforts. The back door of the kitchen was a much frequented spot with campers seeking out their favorite staff, who were happy to place their signatures on camp T-shirts.
Camp Clark/Adventure Cove is a happy, peaceful setting for younger boys and a restful spot for adults to relax and enjoy the company of Cubs. We would have happily stayed for any number of days in this woodsy seaside encampment, but our schedule forced us on. From Camp Meriwether we headed north along the coast heading toward Port Townsend to spend the weekend before visiting Camp Hahobas in Washington.
